Azumah Nelson To Fight Irchad Razaaly In May

Boxing champ Azumah Nelson is making a comeback to the ring after nearly 20 years! He’s teaming up with EU Ambassador Irchad Razaaly for an exhibition match aimed at helping young people through sports.

The “Diplo-Rumble” event will showcase the strong partnership between the European Union and Ghana, happening during the yearly Europe Month festivities.

Set at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Diplo-Rumble will draw boxing enthusiasts, diplomats, government officials, and young boxers. The event is open to everyone, with tickets priced at GHC 5, all proceeds going towards equipment for youth boxers.

Azumah Nelson’s collaboration with the European Union emphasizes his belief in sports as a tool for empowering young people. Taking part in this event is a powerful gesture of unity, highlighting the positive influence of sports on society.

During a face-off in Accra, the EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Irchad Razaaly, emphasized boxing’s values of discipline, dedication, and mutual respect. He described boxing as a sport that unites people from diverse backgrounds, transcending language, culture, and nationality.

He added:

“The European Union recognises the power of sports to break down barriers and empower all those who show talent and commitment. That is why we are working with Azumah Nelson and the Ghana Boxing Federation to promote sports diplomacy and support the talented youth of Ghana. The event will be a highlight of our 2024 Europe Month celebrations, which are focused on youth and skills,” He added.

Azumah “Zoom Zoom” Nelson also said, “I am a firm believer in the power of sports diplomacy. Throughout my career, I have seen first-hand the incredible impact that boxing can have in bringing people together, fostering understanding, and promoting peace.”

“As a proud ambassador of boxing, I am passionate about using this sport as a platform for promoting dialogue and creating opportunities for our younger generations. Sports helps to break down barriers, and build bridges.”
