Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly keeping a close eye on German-born Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku, according to Dutch media outlet Soccernews.nl.
The 21-year-old, who currently plays for Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar, is said to be highly regarded by manager Erik ten Hag, who is pushing for his signing ahead of the upcoming season. Talks are reportedly ongoing between the two clubs, with a deal expected to be finalised before the close of the current transfer window.
Poku has been identified as a potential replacement for Jeremie Frimpong, who left Leverkusen to join Premier League side Liverpool earlier this summer.
While Bayer Leverkusen are currently leading the race for his signature, Turkish giants BeÅŸiktaÅŸ are also said to be interested in securing the services of the talented winger.
Born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, Poku remains eligible to represent Ghana despite featuring for the Netherlands at youth level.
