In order to be ready for the 2018 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, Ghana’s U-20 national team, known as the Black Satellites, will compete in a four-nation competition in Morocco from March 17 to 25.
Prior to the continental competition, the team will use the event as a vital platform to hone their strategies and evaluate their roster. Ghana will compete in the mini-tournament against Morocco, the hosts, and two other countries.
The Black Satellites, along with hosts Ivory Coast, Tanzania, DR Congo, and a Central African Football Federations Union (UNIFAC) squad, have been assigned to Group A for the U-20 AFCON. The dates of the event are set for April 26–May 18, 2025.
As part of their preparations, the Black Satellites have been playing friendly matches against Ghana Premier League clubs, including Hearts of Oak, Nations FC, and Heart of Lions, as well as lower-tier teams in Accra.
Ghana remains one of Africa’s most successful youth teams, having won the U-20 AFCON four times. They also made history in 2009 as the first African team to lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
