Boakye Agyarko calls on NPP to regroup and retake power after 2024 defeat

Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Boakye Agyarko, has urged party supporters to rise from their recent electoral loss and work towards reclaiming power in the next general elections.

In a passionate statement, Agyarko acknowledged the NPP’s disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections and emphasized the need for introspection, learning from mistakes, and mobilizing effectively for the 2028 elections. Drawing inspiration from World War II history, he referenced General Joseph Stilwell’s determination to turn defeat into victory, stating that the NPP must do the same.

“We got a hell of a beating. We got run out, and it is humiliating as hell. I think we ought to find out what caused it, go back, and retake it,” Agyarko quoted Stilwell, underscoring the importance of understanding what led to the party’s electoral failure and using those lessons to strategize for a comeback.

He cautioned against baseless optimism and overconfidence, urging party members to undertake a thorough analysis of their mistakes, modify strategies, and prepare adequately for the next battle at the polls.

“The defeat was devastating because a lot of the variables for victory were within our control; we had the authority, we had the assets, and yet failed to accomplish the mission of winning the election,” he stated.

Agyarko also made a heartfelt plea to members who had distanced themselves from the party after the loss, calling on them to return and contribute towards rebuilding the NPP. He stressed the importance of unity and urged all polling stations to compile an updated register of members, supporters, and sympathizers to ensure effective mobilization ahead of the 2028 elections.

“Great leaders don’t wait to be in charge to begin leading. Let us all aim at achieving this by December 2025. Our eyes must be on the prize,” he charged.

His rallying call comes at a time when the NPP is navigating internal restructuring and strategic planning to reestablish itself as the dominant political force in Ghana. With the next election cycle still ahead, Agyarko’s words serve as a crucial reminder of the party’s need to regroup, reorganize, and reclaim its lost mandate.
