Boankra Inland Port Project: Phase One Almost Halfway Complete

In the first phase of the $308 million Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT), also called the Boankra Inland Port, at Boankra in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region, over 40% of the construction has been completed thus far.

The project contractor, JUSTMOH Construction Limited, stated that they are hopeful about completing the work by the new deadline of September 2026. The project began on October 10, 2022.

“Currently, 40% of the first phase is done, and we’re confident we’ll meet the new deadline,” said Dr. John Bernard Koranteng Yorke, Project Manager of JUSTMOH, to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport during their site visit.

The contractor has nearly finished filling the terminal and is applying bitumen on the 12.2-kilometer road. The remaining area is where the Penama Stream crosses, and a bridge is being built to channel the water before completing the paving.

The 413-acre project includes an inland clearance depot, customs areas, commercial spaces like banks and offices, vehicle parking, light industrial areas, and an administration block. Once completed, it will serve importers and exporters in central and northern Ghana and facilitate transit traffic to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Committee Chairman Kennedy Osei Nyarko said their visit aimed to review progress and address challenges faced by the contractor.

He said the committee’s role is to support the ministries of Transport, Aviation, Roads and Highways, and related agencies. He praised the terminal’s progress and urged the Ministry of Transport to pay the contractor, who hasn’t been paid since last November, to keep the project on schedule.

Dr. Justice Amoh, CEO of JUSTMOH assured his commitmen to completing the project, calling it a national asset. He asked the committee to help secure the necessary funds.
