Fabian Hurzeler, 31, became the youngest full-time manager of a Premier League team when he was hired by Brighton.
Hurzeler has a contract that runs through 2027. Hurzeler led St Pauli to the Bundesliga 2 championship last season by winning 20 of their 34 games.
Tony Bloom, the chairman of Brighton, stated that he was a “standout candidate” to succeed Roberto de Zerbi, who departed at the end of the season, because of his work with St. Pauli.
Hurzeler will join the team as soon as he is granted a work permit, and in July, Brighton’s players will begin preseason training.
Hurzeler is the youngest manager to have led a Premier League team since the division’s founding in 1992, but Ryan Mason, at 29 years old, was briefly Tottenham’s temporary manager in 2021.
Hurzeler is also younger than other prominent Brighton players, such as Lewis Dunk, 32, Danny Welbeck, 33, and James Milner, 38.
The recently appointed manager of the Seagulls expressed his excitement at joining a group of “extremely ambitious” players.
Hurzeler expressed his excitement at becoming a part of the project:
, “The club has a unique history and bold vision for the future.”
Hurzeler’s assistant coaches Andrew Crofts and Jack Stern, who specializes in goalkeeping, will continue in their roles. Hurzeler’s other assistant coaches will be confirmed “in due course,” according to Brighton.
