Building Collapse In Sokoban Leaves One Dead, Three Rescued
On Sunday, October 20, a one-story building collapsed at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi, resulting in the tragic death of one person and the rescue of three others.
The construction workers at the site were the victims of the early morning collapse.
At 2:45 a.m., the Kejetia Fire team of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to a distress call.
As soon as they arrived, they discovered four workmen buried in the debris and started a rescue effort.
Sadly, one person was discovered dead at the scene, but the GNFS team was able to safely rescue three of the imprisoned people while they were still alive.
The dead person’s body was turned over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and additional inquiry.
Authorities are currently looking into what caused the collapse and whether any safety procedures were broken.
The GNFS stressed in its statement how crucial it is for workers and construction businesses to properly follow safety protocols in order to avert future tragedies.
“The swift response from our team ensured three lives were saved. However, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the need for all construction projects to comply with safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the GNFS stated.
