Renato Veiga has been officially signed by Chelsea from FC Basel.
The Athletic said last week that the two teams had reached an agreement on a deal of €14 million (£11.8 million; $15.3 million) with no sell-on clause.
The 20-year-old has committed to Stamford Bridge for a minimum of seven years, with an additional one-year option.
Veiga is regarded as an ideal fit for Enzo Maresca’s system and is anticipated to be utilized as an inverted full-back. He is capable of playing as a left-sided center-back, left-back, or a No. 6 in midfield. After leading Leicester City to promotion the previous season, Maresca took over as Chelsea’s head coach earlier this summer, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino.
Veiga made 26 appearances for FC Basel in all competitions last season, contributing one assist and two goals. He graduated from the Sporting Lisbon academy and moved to Basel in 2023 after spending time on loan at Ausburg.
This summer, Veiga becomes the latest signing at Chelsea, joining Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, and Omari Kellyman.
