Contract Workers Of Electoral Commission Demand Their Due Salaries For 2024 Elections

For services provided during the general elections in 2024, a few contract employees of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Greater Accra Region are requesting remuneration.

The employees, who were hired by the commission to help with the election process in December 2024, say they were guaranteed GHC600 but have not received their money in spite of several follow-ups.

One of the impacted employees, speaking anonymously to Citi News on March 7, bemoaned the delay and urged the EC to perform its responsibility.

“I texted some of the officials, but there was no reply. They said the payment would come, but it didn’t. Others also followed up, yet nothing happened. If the EC knows we have not been paid, then it’s really bad because you cannot hire someone, let them work for you, and then not pay them while you sit comfortably.

“For any job, when you employ someone, you need to pay them immediately after the work is done. I’m just appealing to the EC to resolve this issue as soon as possible so that no one has to keep complaining because a lot of people are affected,” the worker lamented.

Some of the affected contract staff served as presiding officers, verification officers, name list reference officers, and ballot issuers during the elections.

They have expressed disappointment over the EC’s silence on the matter and are calling on authorities to urgently address their concerns.
