Dambai College of Education launches academic journal

The Dambai College of Education in the Oti Region has launched an academic journal devoted to sharing knowledge generated from research in educational practices and theories that support the transformational processes occurring in the global education and development sectors.

This makes the institution the first college of education to launch an academic journal in the country.

The Journal of Transformative Education and Development (JoTED) provides a platform for multidisciplinary research in education. It seeks to stimulate dialogue and cooperation among practitioners, researchers, educators, and policymakers committed to promoting innovation and driving constructive change across diverse educational domains.

At the event held in Accra, a JoTED Editorial Advisory Board chaired by a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Prof. Josphus Anamuah-Mensah, was inaugurated.
JoTED is a peer-reviewed journal that advocates scholarly work in transformative educational practices.

Indication

In an address read on his behalf to launch the journal, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the fact that “you are launching this important educational archive indicates how far you have come as a college of education”.

He said he could not rule out the fact that in developing the journal, the college might have encountered one challenge or the other in its quest to bring its dream into reality.

Mr Idrissu said the role of journals in tertiary education could not be overemphasised and that publications were reference educational material, which offered policy guidance and direction.

“Peer-reviewed journals create an academic community of practice for the sharing of experience and best practices. The establishment of Journal of Transformative Education and Development (JoTE), therefore, grants a unique opportunity for researchers at Dambai College of Education, tutors, students, other academics and the public, the outlet now to publish their research papers,” he said.

In an address read on his behalf, Prof. Anamuah-Mensah said the gathering was not only to unveil a journal but to unleash a movement of critical thought, ethical scholarship and impactful change.

Crossroads

He said education across Ghana and Africa was at a pivotal crossroads.

The acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, who happens to be the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, commended the principal and the management of the college for their foresight.

The Principal of the Damba College of Education, Dr Benedicta Awusi Atiku, said the journal was not only a proud moment in the history of the institution but also a bold step in its commitment to contribute meaningfully to education scholarship and national development.

She said the college, which had over the years positioned itself as a centre of teacher training excellence in the Oti Region, was extending its reach and impact through the scholarly platform.

The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Prof. Augustine Ocloo, lauded the college for the great initiative.
