Dangote Refinery Ready To Begin Gasoline Production

According to a notice by industry watchdog IIR Energy, Nigeria’s 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote refinery is testing gasoline production; full operation is anticipated by mid-September.

After years of delays, the $20 billion Dangote refinery, which was constructed on the outskirts of Lagos by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, started operations in January.

Dangote had previously stated that gasoline deliveries from the refinery would begin in July. To date, the company has only produced diesel and other distillate fuels. Prior to that, the refinery planned to begin producing motor fuel by the end of May.

IIR stated in a message to clients that additional extensions would be possible.
The refinery is expected to drastically alter the fuel trade between Europe and Africa once it is fully operating and lessen Nigeria’s need on imported refined goods.
