The last limited registration drive gained 778,447 new voters, according to the Electoral Commission (EC), bringing the total number of eligible voters on the roll to almost 18.6 million.
Jean Mensa, the chairwoman of the European Commission, gave this update on Friday, July 19, during a briefing to Parliament about the approaching elections on December 7.
Additionally, Jean Mensa disclosed that a mop-up exercise is planned for Thursday, August 1 through Saturday, August 3.
To make sure that all eligible voters are registered, this procedure will be conducted at all district offices, including the recently formed Guan district.
The voter exhibition exercise has been moved to August in order to make room for this mop-up operation.
This change aims to address issues raised during the restricted voter registration period, such as violence blamed on the guarantor system, which involved busing people to the registration centers.
The EC intends to promote the Ghana Card as the only identity document needed for voter registration as a preventive step, with the goal of improving security and streamlining the procedure.
Furthermore, the Commission has hired 210,000 officials, all of whom will receive training to guarantee they are capable of performing their jobs well.
Additionally, Jean Mensa emphasized that the EC now has comprehensive information on every employee hired, which will help with improved oversight and synchronization of the election process.
