Joana Cudjoe, the parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) from the election held on December 7.
The EC claims that the ruling is consistent with an interlocutory injunction that was issued by the Sekondi High Court, which contested her candidacy.
In an attempt to challenge the petition that prevented her from participating in the election, Madam Cudjoe had previously filed an appeal with the EC.
Madam Cudjoe’s attorneys, Ayine and Associates, stressed in a letter dated October 15 that she is still the legitimately chosen NDC candidate.
However, a statement endorsed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC chief overseeing operations, points out that the Order has not been revoked or stayed, meaning the Commission is still subject to it.
The statement clarified that Madam Cudjoe was instructed by the court to abstain from running for the NDC parliamentary seat until the matter was resolved.
