Claims that the recent fire outbreak in Adum was caused by power fluctuations have been rejected by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
ECG’s Ashanti West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, addressed the matter and said that the market is fed by a specific distribution line called the Town Hall Feeder, which also receives an alternate power source from Power House 2. Before the fire, both sources were stable.
Ing. Amoah reaffirmed ECG’s dedication to supplying the region with a dependable power supply, acknowledging its significance as a significant source of income.
While admitting that theft and vandalism of transformers and cables have previously resulted in power outages, Ing.
Prior to the fire, Amoah attested to the stability of the power supply. ECG only cut the supply to help with firefighting after the incident.
Additionally, he noted that inadequate electrical installations, unauthorized connections, and old wiring provide serious fire hazards in the market. In accordance with LI 2008 laws, ECG has advised traders to employ trained electricians in order to reduce such risks.
Ing. Amoah went on to explain that the recent power outage in several areas of Kumasi had nothing to do with the fire incident and had no bearing on the Adum market.
