The price increases for gas, water, and electricity have been announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
The increase will go into effect on July 1 and run until September 30, 2024, as part of PURC’s second quarterly review.
Residential power users will receive an increase of 5.84%, while lifeline customers will see an increase of 3.45%, according to PURC.
On the other hand, the industrial group “will see a 4.92% increase in electricity tariffs.”
Ghanaians are expected to face “an increase of 5.16% for all customer classes for the period under review” in water prices.
Ishmael Ackah, the Executive Secretary of PURC, signed a declaration stating that the reviews were conducted in accordance with the Commission’s Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism.
This monitors and accounts for fluctuations in important uncontrolled variables, such as the US dollar to Ghana cedi exchange rate, the rate of domestic inflation, the mix of fuels used to generate energy, and the price of fuel, mostly natural gas.
In the meantime, PURC stated that in determining the results of this study, it also took into account the industries’ level of competition and the general living standards of Ghanaians.
