Fenerbahce, a team in the Turkish Super Liga, said on Saturday that José Mourinho had started talks with them about taking over as head coach.
With experience managing some of the best teams in Europe, Mourinho is expected to take over a team that placed second in the Super Lig, three points behind winners and rivals Galatasaray of Istanbul.
Should Mourinho be hired, he would take over for Turkish manager Ismail Kartal, who managed just one defeat in the league but six expensive draws in the title fight.
Mourinho will have the responsibility of assisting Fenerbahce in winning their first league championship since the 2013–14 campaign. Mourinho has won championships with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
The 61-year-old also led Roma to the Europa League final the following year, where they were defeated by Sevilla on penalties, and helped them win their first European title in 2022 when they won the Europa Conference League, the third-tier competition.
However, in January of this year, when Roma was ranked ninth in Serie A, he was fired. Daniele De Rossi, a former player for Italy, took his position, and Roma finally finished sixth to earn a trip to the Europa League.
