FIFA Council To Review Calls For Sanctions Against Israel.

In response to a suggestion by the Palestine Football Association, FIFA will review potential sanctions against the Israel Football Federation on Thursday.

The PFA demanded in March that a vote be held at Fifa’s congress in May to suspend Israel due to the conflict in Gaza.

At the time, the president of world football’s governing body Gianni Infantino indicated, following a legal examination, that it was a subject for the Fifa Council to make a judgment on.

The body that oversees world football’s major decision-making process is the council.

A “proposal submitted by the Palestine Football Association at the 74th Fifa congress” is on the agenda for this Thursday’s Fifa Council meeting.

The Palestine FA seeks sanctions against the nation’s “national teams and clubs” on the grounds that it claims the Israeli federation has violated “Fifa regulations.”

“We are facing a cynical political and hostile attempt by the Palestinian association to harm Israeli football,” stated IFF President Shino Moshe Zuares in the past.

Israel’s home Nations League matches are being held in Hungary, and due to security concerns, the country also hosted an away game against Belgium last month.

In October, they have games in Italy and as hosts to France during the international break.

In response to the historic attack on southern Israel on October 7th by Hamas gunmen, which resulted in about 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages, Israel began a military campaign in Gaza.

The health ministry operated by Hamas reports that 41,689 individuals have been killed in a military campaign in Gaza since the attack.

The Fifa Council will convene in the midst of Iran launching over 180 missiles towards Israel and Israel beginning a ground attack of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
