A suspected food poison is reported to have killed five people including a pregnant woman in Accra, Ghana.
According to reports, the suspected food poison is believed to be connected to a food joint at Oyibi Bush Canteen Junction, in Accra.
Over 40 customers were reportedly affected, out of which five, including a pregnant woman and a lotto vendor, died. Before we dive deeper, Waakye is a combination of rice and beans.

The victims including the waakye seller and some of her family members were rushed to the Valley View Hospital. The Oyibi Hospital, Dodowa Hospital and other facilities to receive treatment. They complained of severe stomach aches after they had eaten the food last week Friday.
Yellow Sisi Waakye joint is among the popular food joints at Oyibi Bush Canteen. According to daily graphic, the Vally View hospital did not comfirm the food poison incident. Some staff member affiremd that some patients came in very bad shape.
Hospital officials could not provide enough information as to the number of people who might have been affected. They indicated that the data from the hospital had been forwarded to the Kpone Katamanso District Hospital. Further investigation will be carried by the Kpone hospital.

Officials at the district hospital confirmed the story but said they were conducting further tests on patients. They promised to to find out whether it was indeed a case of food poisoning or something else.
For now, some other people are still visiting the hospital and, therefore, until all the necessary laboratory tests are complete, we cannot give specific data on the number of people who have been affected or whether it was indeed a case of food poisoning,” Dr Esther Danquah from the district hospital said.
