Former Ghana midfielder Alfred Duncan believes the country has an abundance of talented players capable of elevating the senior national team.
The ex-Inter Milan player, who earned nine caps for the Black Stars after debuting in 2016, has been absent from the squad since 2019.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Duncan revealed that he retired from international football prematurely due to a lack of respect.
He also disclosed that the last two Black Stars coaches attempted to persuade him to return, but he declined their offers.
Explaining his decision to step away, Duncan stated: “For me, yes it is final because at my age now I dont think obviously I can be able to give more to the national team but I think there are really young ones more talented and who have more fresh blood and can really help the national team than I can so I don’t see the reason why I should block someone’s chance.”
Duncan made six appearances for Ghana. Meanwhile, the Black Stars will regroup next week for their Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
