Former Morocco & Marseille Midfielder Barrada Passes Away At 35

Abdelaziz Barrada, a former midfielder for Morocco and Marseille, passed away at the age of 35.

He died of a heart attack, according to Moroccan media sources, however the cause of death has not yet been verified.

After 26 international games, including one at the 2012 London Olympic Games, Barrada announced his retirement from football in 2021. His final goal came in 2015, and he scored four goals overall.

In their social media memorial, the Moroccan Football Federation called his demise “a great loss.”

In addition, Barrada scored twice for Marseille in his two seasons there from 2014 to 2016 and played 64 times for the Spanish team Getafe from 2011 to 2013.

Marseille wrote on social media, “The club would like to share in the grief of his loved ones and extend its sincere condolences to his family.”

Barrada played for Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates, Antalyaspor in Turkey, and Lusitanos Saint-Maur in France after his stint at the Ligue 1 team, however he did not play before ending his career three years ago.

Paris St-Germain, where Barrada was born in France, posted on social media that ” The club extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
