Fuel Tanker Explosion Kills Dozens In South Africa

South Africans are celebrating Christmas in grief amid a fuel tanker explosion.

Authorities confirmed 15 people perished in the fuel tanker explosion. According to an eye-witness, the tanker appeared to have gotten stuck under a low bridge. The tragic event happened Saturday morning in Boksburg city, about 100m from Tambo Memorial Hospital.

The fuel tanker drove under the subway bridge and got stuck. Due to friction, it caught alight. Emergency services spokesperson, William Ntladi, told the press. The tanker was carrying petroleum gas.

Patients at the hospital were rescued and evacuated to safety. firefighters tried to put out the blaze, there was a huge second explosion destroying the firefighter’s car engine and two motor vehicles.

Michael Kulinji, described the blast as atomic nature. He saw the explosion from his house not too far away from the fuel taker.
