George Boateng Gets New Appointment As Coventry City Coach

Coventry City F.C., an English Championship team, has named George Boateng as their first-team coach.

Boateng, who was previously an assistant coach for the Black Stars, joins Rhys Carr at the team with immediate effect as the Sky Blues get ready for preseason training at Ryton.

Performance Director Claire-Marie Roberts affirmed her trust in Boateng and Carr, saying they were exceptional selections after a difficult selection process.

“George & Rhys were consistently the strongest candidates throughout our extensive selection process.

“Their respective skills will bring a new dimension to our experienced multi-disciplinary team as we work to continually enhance the development and preparation of our first-team players.”

Boateng is a seasoned player who has played for Coventry before, having made significant contributions to the team in the past, including two goals in a historic league triumph over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

During his playing career, he represented the Netherlands internationally and played for a number of English clubs, including Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

Boateng has coached at Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa, where he was the Under 18s and Under 23s coach. He made a big impact there.

For his time as a coach, he also served as the Black Stars’ assistant coach for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). More importantly, he helped Ghana qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, though he resigned when the team was eliminated early from the tournament.
