The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has imposed a GH¢5,000 fine on Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions for misconduct.
The club was penalized for making inappropriate social media comments about match officials following their 1-0 loss to Dreams FC at the Tuba AstroTurf.
Accra Lions further fueled the controversy by insinuating that external factors influenced the outcome of the match, implying bias in favor of Dreams FC.
The Disciplinary Committee ruled that the club’s remarks tarnished the reputation of the game.
According to the GFA Prosecutor, Accra Lions’ actions violated Section 34(6)(d) of the 2019 GFA Premier League Regulations, as their social media comments undermined the credibility of match officials.
In addition to the fine, the club has been warned to refrain from similar actions in the future to avoid further sanctions.
