Ghana To Announce Jordan Ayew As Black Stars Captain

Ghana’s senior national team is expected to appoint Jordan Ayew, a forward for the Black Stars, as its new captain.
The Leicester City striker is anticipated to assume the captaincy post prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar, according to a report by Joy Sports.
Following Thomas Partey’s alleged refusal to continue serving as first deputy captain, the decision was made. Alexander Djiku has been named the new first deputy as a result.
Partey, who has held the position since 2019, is leaving, bringing his six-year leadership term to a close.
In the absence of Partey and former captain André Ayew, Jordan Ayew previously captained the Black Stars against Angola and Niger in the last round of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. He had initially been passed over for the doubleheader against Sudan in favor of Mohammed Kudus.
According to the article, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has implemented a new captaincy selection policy that places greater emphasis on squad longevity.
The goal of these structural adjustments, which are scheduled to go into effect in March 2025, is to stabilize the team.
After the Black Stars struggled to win in 2024, head coach Otto Addo is hopeful that the new leadership structure will help them get back on track.
