Ghanaian Boxing Icon Clement Ike Quartey Dies

According to the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), legendary Ghanaian boxer Clement Ike “Bazooka” Quartey died on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the United Kingdom.

Although the circumstances of his death have not been made public, he was 54 years old.

Ike Quartey fought in 42 fights throughout his stellar professional boxing career, which ran from 1988 to 2006. With an incredible 31 knockout victories, his record stands at 37 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw.

Quartey competed in the WBA welterweight, light-welterweight, and light-middleweight classes and was affectionately known by his ring name, “Bazooka.”

His 1999 fight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas against renowned American boxer Oscar De La Hoya stands out as one of his most notable career events.

Along with his professional accomplishments, Quartey won a silver medal in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia, in the men’s Light Welterweight (63.5 kg) division.
