Ghanaian forward scores as Zeleznicar stun league

Ghanaian forward Kwaku Karikari scores as Zeleznicar stun league leaders Partizan Belgrade

Ghanaian forward Kwaku Karikari was on target as FK Zeleznicar Pancevo produced one of the biggest surprises of the Serbian Superliga season, defeating leaders Partizan Belgrade on the weekend.

Partizan got off to a bright start at the Partizan Stadium when youngster Nemanja Trifunović fired the hosts ahead in the 7th minute.

However, the advantage lasted only briefly as Zeleznicar responded moments later through Bulgarian midfielder Sylvester Jasper, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to draw his side level.

The visitors completed the turnaround in the 33rd minute, and this time it was Karikari who delivered.

The Ghanaian forward rose highest to meet a delightful cross from midfielder Dario Grgic, heading home expertly to silence the home supporters.

Zeleznicar maintained their momentum after the break and needed just a minute into the second half to extend their lead, with Grgic turning from provider to scorer to make it 3–1.

Ghanaian defender Abdul Aziz Yusif delivered a solid performance throughout the full 90 minutes for Zeleznicar, helping protect their lead in the closing stages.

His compatriot Ibrahim Zubairu came off the bench in the 81st minute for Partizan but could do little to influence the outcome.

Karikari’s strike takes his tally to three goals and one assist in 11 league appearances this season, underlining his growing influence for Zeleznicar.
