Government recalls diplomatic and service passports issued by previous administration

The Office of the President has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recall all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to safeguard the proper use of official travel documents and uphold the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic engagements.

In a directive signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, the recall is aimed at preventing misuse of the passports, ensuring compliance with international and national standards.

“This exercise aligns with the Government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and administration of official travel documents,” the statement read.

To facilitate the process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to:

1. Issue a Public Notice: Inform all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration to return the documents.

2. Set a Deadline for Compliance: Holders must comply with the recall by January 24, 2025.

3. Conduct Verification: Undertake a thorough review of all returned passports to ensure they meet the current eligibility criteria for issuance.

The statement emphasized that cooperation and prompt action are essential to maintaining the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system. It urged affected individuals to adhere to the directive within the specified timeframe.

For further clarification or assistance, the Office of the President remains available to address concerns regarding the exercise.
