Guasomanhene Backs Calls By NDC For Audit Of The Voters Register

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is concerned about inconsistencies in the voter registration. Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, has called on Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, to address these concerns.

This request comes after the national “Enough is Enough” protest organized by the NDC on September 17. The protest was prompted by the Electoral Commission’s denial of allowing an outside audit of the voter registration.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, emphasized the need for a reliable voter registration list and urged the Electoral Commission to conduct a forensic examination.

He emphasized the significance of their 16-region nationwide demonstration to put pressure on the EC to address concerns about voting integrity.

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah counseled the Electoral Commission to commit to an external audit in order to maintain peace and openness in the electoral process during a recent meeting with NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs.

He contended that an audit would further confirm the register’s legitimacy if the EC continues to insist that it is accurate

In addition, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah bemoaned the EC’s unwillingness to follow his earlier suggestion to decentralize the registration procedure to nearby towns and districts in order to improve accessibility.

He appealed to the EC to heed the NDC’s demands for peace to prevail saying “I’m disappointed the EC hasn’t listened. During registration, I advised Chairperson Jean Mensa to decentralise the process to villages and districts for easier access, considering transportation issues.”

“The EC’s response to the NDC’s concerns was uninspiring. I firmly believe an external audit is necessary. Denying this request raises suspicions.

“If the EC allows an audit and finds nothing, it will boost its credibility. I urge the EC to heed the NDC’s demands for peace to prevail.”
