Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, has defended her choice to purchase a firearm.
According to Naa Koryoo, she required a gun to defend herself against Mavis Hawa Koomson, the incumbent member of parliament and her opponent.
She said she was threatened four times by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture during the 2020 elections in an interview with Citi FM, situated in Accra.
However, the Police took no action.
This follows the Sunday arrests of Naa Koryoo, Mustapha Mohammed, and Abdul Aziz Musah for allegedly possessing a handgun without a valid permit.
The three people were apprehended near the EC Office in Ofaakor while riding in a Honda CRV with the license plate GX-2044-19.
The police reported that one pump-action gun, along with four rounds of ammo, was taken out of the car.
However, Madam Okunor has refuted the rumors that she was arrested.
Ato Koomson, the son of Hawa Koomson, was stabbed in the chest during the pandemonium.
