Ghanaian striker Ibrahim Sadiq made a significant impact after being substituted into the game, sparking AZ Alkmaar’s remarkable comeback in their Dutch Eredivisie match on Saturday.
Sadiq notched a goal and provided an assist as AZ rallied from a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 victory at home against Waalwijk.
Waalwijk took an early lead with David Min finding the net within three minutes of kickoff, setting the tone for the away side’s strong start.
Min struck again just before halftime, extending Waalwijk’s lead and seemingly putting the game out of reach for AZ.
However, AZ turned the tide with a triple substitution in the 61st minute, leading to an impressive turnaround in fortunes.
Sadiq, among the substitutes brought into the match, played a key role in setting up the opportunity for Yukinari Sugawara to score, resulting in AZ narrowing the gap just four minutes after Sadiq entered the field.
Following his setup for the equalizer, Sadiq himself found the back of the net in the 75th minute, leveling the score and providing his team with the chance to pursue a victory. Shortly after Sadiq’s goal, AZ’s leading scorer Vangelis Pavlidis capitalized with a goal just two minutes later, propelling AZ into the lead for the first time in the match.
They maintained their advantage for the remainder of the game, ensuring victory when the final whistle blew after 90 minutes. Sadiq’s goal marked his debut for the club in the Dutch League and his second overall since joining from BK Hacken during the summer transfer window. Additionally, he earned the Man of the Match award for his standout performance.
