John Amos, Star Actor Of ‘Coming to America,’ Passes Away At 84.
According to his longtime publicist Belinda Foster, John Amos, the actor best remembered for playing the adult Kunta Kinte in the renowned original miniseries “Roots,” and the patriarch of the family on the popular sitcom “Good Times,” has passed away. He was eighty-four.
Foster informed CNN on the phone on Tuesday that Amos died in Los Angeles of natural causes on August 21. She also forwarded an email with a statement from Kelly Christopher Amos, Amos’ son.
John Amos was cremated more than a month ago, and his death certificate states that he passed away from congestive heart failure, according to TMZ. Rumours are that, at the time of his death, a family dispute was brewing.
The “Good Times” star passed away at an Inglewood hospital on August 21 at 5:18 PM, according to the death certificate that TMZ was able to get and submit with L.A. County.
Other than heart failure, no other serious medical issues are included on the death certificate.
Amos was cremated August 30 … just 9 days after he died.
Kelly Christopher Amos, also known as K.C., is listed on the death certificate as Amos’ son and the person who notified the county of his father’s passing.
The document states that an autopsy was not done.
Under “Type of Disposition,” the option “cremate/residence” is selected. Then it states that K.C.’s home is the place of disposition. That implies unequivocally that he is the owner of the ashes.
Shannon, John’s daughter, says that until K.C. revealed her father’s passing yesterday, she was unaware that her father had passed away.
After Shannon accused her brother of elder abuse, which the authorities later rejected, K.C. and Shannon became enraged.
According to Shannon, John passed away without his family being there.
