Kofi Adams, the Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, has voiced concerns about the equity of management committee members earning the same or greater compensation than players.
Adams, who represents the Buem constituency, denounced the practice on Joy Sports, saying that athletes should always come first when it comes to financial incentives, even though officials have a significant role to play.
it really make sense that I play a full 90-minute game, we win, and I receive a reward—yet someone who didn’t play at all receives the same or even more?” he questioned.
While acknowledging the efforts of team officials, Adams emphasized that their compensation should not exceed or match that of the players who contribute on the field.
“I have no issue with rewarding those who have spent time with the team in a different capacity. However, if their compensation equals or surpasses that of the players who actually take to the field, then I have a personal problem with that.”
Adams’ remarks highlight persistent worries regarding Ghanaian football’s bonus distribution, especially during international tournaments.
Adams is awaiting formal approval to assume his new role, replacing Mustapha Ussif, after a successful vetting.
