Following the Black Stars’ underwhelming performances against Sudan in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Mohammed Kudus has apologized in public.
Following a 2-0 loss to Sudan in the second leg of the qualifications on Tuesday in Libya, Ghana’s national team issued an apology. Last Thursday, the first leg concluded at the Accra Sports Stadium in a goalless tie.
Kudus, who led the squad in both games while Thomas Partey was out, apologized in a statement that read,
“As someone who led the team in both games, I am issuing this statement with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility. On behalf of the entire team, I extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.”
“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are dedicated to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to bring the Black Stars back to our former glory. We appreciate your unwavering support and loyalty, and we are determined to make you proud again.”
With two points from four games, Ghana is currently ranked third in Group F, jeopardizing their prospects of making it to the AFCON for the first time in twenty years.
The Black Stars’ remaining two group games in November will be against Niger and Angola. They must win both games and hope that Sudan loses the other games in order to advance to the tournament in Morocco the following year.
