Kwabena Kwabena Says He Started Valentine’s Day Shows In Ghana
In an interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Kwabena Kwabena responded to the issue surrounding Akwaboah’s postponed 2024 event by claiming that he was the first to plan Valentine’s Day performances in Ghana.
Akwaboah had blamed Kwabena Kwabena’s event, which was set for the same day and location as his 2024 Shades of Love performance, for the cancellation.
For the past 6 years, Valentine’s Day has become synonymous with Akwaboah’s Shades of Love concert. This is why it pains me to say we will not be able to have our concert this year,” Akwaboah wrote in a statement issued in 2024. He also expressed his frustration in an interview on Accra FM, stating that he did not understand why Kwabena Kwabena chose February 14, questioning his decision to hold the event on that day.
However, Kwabena Kwabena clarified the origin of Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana, stating that he started organizing such events before any other Ghanaian musician.
On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine concert. I called it F14. So I started Valentine shows,” he said. He added that it should not be a problem for anyone else to organize events on that day because there are many people who enjoy attending such shows.
Kwabena Kwabena asserted that no artist should claim sole ownership of the day and underlined the significance of recognizing artists’ efforts. “No artist ought to claim it as their own. It’s not fair, really,” he said.
Meanwhile, on February 14, 2025, Kwabena Kwabena will host his Valentine’s Day event at the Grand Arena. Reservations for customized tables can be made by contacting 0551103393 or 0505163674.
