The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership has been formally instructed by President-elect John Dramani Mahama to designate The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the Fourth Republic’s ninth parliament.
The decision highlights Bagbin’s outstanding service to Parliament and comes after discussions with the NDC leadership.
Bagbin has represented Nadwoli as a member of parliament, held the office of majority and minority leader, and most recently, as speaker of the 8th Parliament.
The president-elect emphasized Bagbin’s vast expertise and leadership skills and said he was certain that his leadership would improve Parliament’s capacity to effectively monitor and guide Ghana’s legislative and democratic progress.
The NDC’s dedication to strengthening parliamentary governance and creating a fruitful legislative environment during this pivotal juncture in Ghana’s history is reflected in the nomination.
On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president-elect’s special assistant, signed a formal statement announcing this development.
