The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that there was insufficient evidence to prove that former President John Mahama was involved in any way in the Airbus bribery case.
During a press event on Thursday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed this information along with case developments.
Nonetheless, he verified that Mr. Mahama was the first government official in the Airbus scandal and that his brother, Samuel Mahama, was the fifth middleman.
In 2020, investigations into an arrangement made under Mahama’s administration to purchase two military transport aircraft from Airbus for the Ghana Armed Forces were started by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu.
It was claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and his brother were involved in the controversy.
An INTERPOL Red Notice was issued after a UK court heard charges against Samuel Adam Mahama Foster and his friends in the UK in connection with the Airbus SE-Ghana case and issued an arrest demand for them.
Speaking briefly about the OSP’s investigations, Mr. Agyebeng did point out that Mr. Mahama had not been found guilty of any corruption-related offenses.
