Mason Greenwood has received a €31.6 million (£26.7 million) offer from Marseille, and he will join with the Ligue 1 team pending the completion of his contract negotiations.
The 22-year-old’s turbulent United career will come to an end if he can reach a contractual agreement with Marseille and join. The deal is for a guaranteed €27.6 million plus €4 million in add-ons. It is agreed that 40–50% of any fee is covered by the sell-on clause.
Greenwood was accused of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage in October 2022.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service, he refuted every allegation, and criminal charges were withdrawn in February 2023 when important witnesses stopped cooperating with the inquiry and fresh information surfaced.
Greenwood’s contract with United expires in 2025, however the club may choose to extend it by one more year. Greenwood last appeared on the field for United in January 2022.
Last season, he was on loan to Getafe, where he made 36 appearances, scored 10 goals, and provided six assists. Greenwood is believed to be training apart from the club in the Manchester region after returning to England.
