Manchester United is ln a position to pursue Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes if they sell Casemiro this summer. Casemiro, the seasoned Brazilian player, has faced challenges at Old Trafford since his £70m transfer from Real Madrid in 2022. With two years remaining on his costly contract, it’s anticipated that he will be put up for transfer this summer.
The Saudi Pro League is eyeing Casemiro with keen interest, hinting that he might be available for sale.
Reports suggest if Casemiro moves on, Manchester United will actively pursue a replacement midfielder, with Gomes emerging as prime target.
At just 23 years old, Gomes made a significant impact since his move from Flamengo to Wolves in January 2023. Under the management of Gary O’Neil, he swiftly cemented his position as a vital player for the team. His stellar performances recently earned him his debut cap for Brazil in a match against England over the weekend.
Reports indicate that Manchester United is preparing a bid in the region of £35m for Gomes, who is in contract with Wolves until 2028, with a potential extension option of another 12 months.
The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo in United’s midfield pivot has paved the way for Casemiro ‘s potential exit, with the Brazilian struggling to maintain form this season.
Casemiro expressed confidence in Mainoo’s abilities, foreseeing him as a key asset for United in the coming years. Casemiro praised Mainoo’s humility, work ethic, and receptiveness, labeling him as an exceptional talent.
What Casemiro said:
“Since I play alongside him, I know United will have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the next years.
“I think we have to recognise his value. He’s a great kid. I’m very happy that he’s on our side. As long as he keeps his head on straight and keep it up, I think we’ll have a great player for many, many years here at United.”
