Villarreal has agreed to purchase central defender Willy Kambwala from Manchester United.
According to United sources, the initial payment will be €5.5 million (£4.63 million), and additional costs might raise the total to €11.5 million (£9.68 million).
United has also secured a sizable portion of any sell-on fee for the 19-year-old, in addition to a buy-back option.
The sale is anticipated to close in a few days, and Kambwala will travel to Spain for a medical examination.
With one year remaining on his deal, the France youth international turned down United’s most recent contract offer.
Given the opportunity, Kambwala made 10 appearances in the previous season while manager Erik ten Hag dealt with a central defense injury crisis.
However, they feel that this transaction, for a homegrown player, makes sense because United is looking to reinforce that area of the field and the club is in a tough spot regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules.
