In a deal that could cost up to £60 million, Manchester United has acquired Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, a duo from Bayern Munich.
Mazraoui and De Ligt both inked four-year contracts with the possibility to extend them by one more year.
The injured Luke Shaw is due to return following the first international break, therefore Mazraoui may be called upon right away to fill in at left defense when United plays Fulham in the Premier League on Friday at 20:00 BST.
In exchange for the 25-year-old center defender De Ligt, who captained Erik ten Hag’s Ajax team to the 2019 Champions League semifinals, United has agreed to pay £38.5 million plus an additional £4.3 million.
At Ajax, Mazraoui collaborated with United manager Ten Hag, and both players acknowledged his influence on their growth.
