Leny Yoro, a French defender, has signed a contract with Manchester United until 2029 for 62 million euros (£52.18 million), with an additional 8 million euros (£6.73 million).
The 18-year-old center back has committed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with a one-year extension option.
Yoro, who made his Lille debut at the age of sixteen, was being pursued by Liverpool as well as Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain.
In his 32 league games the previous season, he scored two goals to help Lille finish fourth. He was also selected for the Ligue 1 team of the season.
Yoro played 44 games throughout all competitions for the Ligue 1 team, which advanced to the Europa Conference League quarterfinals before losing to Aston Villa on penalties.
Yoro’s arrival occurs during a summer in which United has been looking to bring in a central defender. This comes after United recently signed 23-year-old forward Joshua Zirkzee in a £36.5 million move from Italian side Bologna.
United made two offers to Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite, but both were turned down. It’s believed that the Merseysiders are worth more than £75 million.
Furthermore, United and Bayern Munich have been in talks regarding Matthijs de Ligt, a Dutch defender.
According to sources, the club is still interested in both Branthwaite and De Ligt, but they wouldn’t sign both. Instead, future additions would probably rely on squad space and funding.
At the end of the season, Raphael Varane left the team, while Victor Lindelof of Sweden, whose contract ends the next year, is under uncertainty.
Last summer, Harry Maguire received offers from other Premier League teams, but he chose to stay at Old Trafford and finally made 22 Premier League appearances.
