Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid has successfully taken over Ligue 2 team Caen.
Through Coalition Capital, the investing arm of Mbappe’s company Interconnected Ventures, the French club now has a majority share.
The 25-year-old France international Mbappe is said to have contributed about 15 million euros (£12.6 million) of his personal funds through the investment vehicle.
Coalition Capital has replaced Oaktree, an American investment fund, as the previous dominant stakeholder.
The club’s supervisory board president at the moment, Pierre-Antoine Capton, is still a minority shareholder.
Caen, who placed sixth in the previous season, will take on Paris FC in their Ligue 2 opener on August 17. It will occur one day before Mbappe, who left PSG on a free transfer this summer, is expected to play in his first La Liga match for Real Madrid against Real Mallorca.
In 2019, Caen was demoted from the Premier League.
In a statement, the club stated: “This transaction reinforces the club’s natural ambition to remain among the historic places in French football and marks a significant step in the club’s strategic development.”
