With a victory over Peru, Argentina can guarantee themselves a position in the Copa America quarterfinals and the top slot in Group A.
The main player and captain, Lionel Messi is facing a possible injury which could be a blow to the defending champs.
During the 1-0 victory over Chile, Messi, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, complained of uneasiness in his right abductor.
Lionel Scaloni, the coach of Argentina, has chosen not to risk his captain even though he did not have a medical check and it appeared to be merely a fear.
ESPN sources claim that Messi will not play in the match against Peru. Scaloni revealed that additional lineup adjustments will be made to provide players who haven’t played yet an opportunity.
Messi is anticipated to work out in Miami with the group. Reports state that the injured area is still swollen, thus more testing to ascertain the extent of the damage is probably in order.
“I received hard adductor in the first play. After the match against Chile, Messi said, “I didn’t feel a puncture or a tear, but I did find it difficult to move freely.”
“I was able to finish the match, so I hope it’s nothing serious.”
The third encounter between Argentina and the NFL will take place at Hard Rock Stadium, which is also the home of Messi’s current team, Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer. Fans who were wanting to see him perform at home would, regrettably, be let down.
