Mikel Arteta Extends Arsenal Contract For Another 3 Years

Mikel Arteta has signed a three-year contract extension at the Emirates, indicating his commitment to Arsenal going forward.

The Spaniard and The Gunners have an eight-year contract that may see him stay in north London until 2027.

On Sunday, Arsenal will travel to Tottenham for the North London derby, which is a short drive.

After finishing in second place in the Premier League two straight seasons, Arteta’s prior contract was extended. It was originally scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Since taking leadership for Unai Emery in December 2019, he has managed to change the club’s goals.

Arteta, a former midfield player for the Londoners, was appointed to his first senior coaching position with Manchester City, where he assisted Pep Guardiola.

Since then, Arteta has elevated his team to the status of City’s main competitor in the Premier League, challenging Guardiola as manager.

After three seasons of finishing outside the top four, the Spaniard rebuilt Arsenal into a title contender and won the FA Cup in his first season as manager.

The Gunners’ second-place position in 2022–2023 marked their best result in seven years.

They accomplished the same thing the previous season, finishing two points behind champions City despite an outstanding 89-point performance.

In the north London derby on Sunday, Arteta’s team—who have already recorded two victories and a draw this season—will travel to take on rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

With Declan Rice and Mikel Merino out due to injury and suspension, and skipper Martin Odegaard suffering an injury during the international break, he has a difficult selection issue.
