Government set to discontinue funding the travel of supporters

Government to end funding for flying fans to support Black Stars – Kofi Adams

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the government is set to discontinue the practice of funding the travel of supporters to major tournaments to cheer on the Black Stars.

For years, the government has spent significant amounts of money airlifting fans to back the senior national team at international competitions.

However, speaking in an interview with Starr FM, Kofi Adams indicated a shift in policy.

“I don’t think that government must spend money to fly fans to tournaments,” Adams said.

“We can bring corporate bodies to send supporters, but not government money,” the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency added.

Historically, the government has covered the costs of transporting and accommodating large groups of fans, particularly during major events like the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup.

This new approach marks a clear departure from previous practices and could reshape how fan participation is organized for international tournaments.
