Otto Addo, the Ghanaian coach, has declared that Mohammed Kudus will lead the Black Stars in their next games against Sudan.
Kickoff for the opening leg of the senior national team’s doubleheader against the Falcons is set for this Thursday at 16:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 45-year-old coach named West Ham United forward Kudus the squad captain for these games during a press conference on Wednesday.
A medical issue prevented Thomas Partey, who had been covering for Andre Ayew as captain, from attending.
The second deputy captain, Richard Ofori, has not played for the squad since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and he is not included in the current squad.
Jordan Ayew is the team’s most seasoned player right now, but Kudus will guide them out of the dressing room and onto the field.
Kudus has scored 11 goals in 36 games for the national team since making his debut in 2019.
After suffering a humiliating opening loss to Angola and settling for a 1-1 draw against Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications, the Black Stars are desperate for a win.
As part of the Matchday Four fixtures, the return leg against Sudan is set to take place on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Jediane.
