Zambia is becoming more interested in hiring Black Queens coach Nora Hauptle to lead their women’s national team, but Hauptle has reaffirmed her commitment to her current position.
After Ghana’s national women’s team produced an incredible comeback to tie 3-3 against Zambia in their pivotal 2024 Olympic qualifier in Ndola last February, Zambian supporters pushed for Hauptle’s appointment.
Ghana put up a strong fight, but their earlier 1-0 loss in Accra prevented them from qualifying for the Olympics.
In the face of appeals for her to change sides, Hauptle reaffirmed her support for Ghana at a press conference prior to their forthcoming friendly match against Japan on July 13.
She stated:
“I’m the Ghana national team coach. Of course, it’s an honour when other countries are asking for me, but I know where I belong to,” she said.
“I started a mission here; I have a fantastic squad. I have a very good human relation with my players so I’m committed here. The Mission Volta, the next step is to succeed on a WAFCON. I’m willing to fulfil my job here.
“And besides that, it’s not in my mind. But of course, that means that we are not doing things wrongly when there are such demands around,”
To prepare for their friendly match at the Kanazawa Go Go Curry Stadium, the Black Queens have set off for Japan on Sunday.
