Commuters utilizing the Ofankor-Pokuase section of the N6 Highway may soon experience relief, as the ongoing construction is scheduled to be finished by the end of September 2024.
The 2.3-kilometer portion will soon be available to traffic, according to Ing. Kwabena Bempong, the Chief Resident Engineer for the Pokuase-Nsawam Highway project, who made this announcement during an interview on Citi FM in Accra on Monday.
In response to questions regarding the project’s status, Ing. Bempong calculated that roughly 70% of the work had been finished.
“We have finished the first layer, called the binder, which is about 1.2 kilometers of asphalt so far,” he stated.
He went on to say that by the end of September, the remaining work on this section and others will be completed, allowing traffic to flow to the China Mall, with the exception of certain areas like the Amasaman interchange, Pobiman overpass, and the Media area where overpasses and interchanges are still being built.
A thorough explanation of the 8-lane road, which will have 2-lane service roads on either side, was also given by Ing. Bempong.
It is anticipated that the heavy automobile traffic on the stretch will be considerably reduced by this new infrastructure, he stressed.
“The stretch between Ofankor and the beginning of the Pokuase Interchange, known as The White House, is about 2.3 kilometres and will feature 4 lanes in each direction, including 2-lane service roads on either side. Additionally, we have rebuilt the railway bridge to accommodate at least 2 railway lines in the future, replacing the previous single line,” he added.
