Otto Addo Explains Andre Ayew’s Absence From The Black Stars

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has said that other players are currently ahead of experienced attacker Andre Ayew in the squad hierarchy, which explains why he was left off the senior national team.

Despite his steady performances at the club level, the 35-year-old Le Havre striker has not played for Ghana since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and was again left out of the squad for the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

“If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him,” Addo told Joy Sports in an interview.

Ayew has scored four goals in 11 starts this season for Le Havre, a team in French Ligue 1.

Jordan Ayew, his younger brother, has led the Black Stars to consecutive wins while he has been away, including a 3-0 victory over Madagascar and a 5-0 victory over Chad.

With four games left in the campaign, Ghana now leads Group I in the World Cup qualifications with 15 points thanks to these performances.
