Part of Suhum-Accra Highway Poses Deadly Risk [Video]
In Suhum 44, located in the Eastern region, residents are facing increasing fear and anxiety due to a growing pit along the highway, a result of heavy rains in recent times. This pit has become a significant concern for the community, as it presents a serious risk to both people’s lives and property.
The situation escalated when a car plunged into the pit, highlighting the imminent danger posed by this hazard. Rescue efforts ensued to aid those in the vehicle, revealing further risks such as a motorcycle and a carcass, indicating that previous accidents might have occurred unnoticed. This incident has heightened the community’s alarm over the precarious condition of the highway.
Local authorities and residents are calling for urgent action to address this pressing issue before more accidents occur. The safety of commuters and residents along the Suhum-Accra highway is paramount, and swift measures are needed to mitigate the risks posed by the deteriorating road conditions.
Residents in Suhum 44, Eastern region, are worried about a big hole forming on the highway after heavy rains. Recently, a car fell into it, and during rescue, a motorcycle and a carcass were found, suggesting past accidents. Assemblymen Emmanuel Yeboah and Kwaku Dankwah are asking the government to fix it before the rainy season. If nothing’s done, they fear the road might close, putting everyone’s safety at risk.
Foster Ofori, the Highway Engineer for Suhum, admitted that reports about the pit have been sent to national authorities. He emphasized the importance of acting quickly before things get worse. He suggested building culverts and a girder bridge to solve the issue. But he also mentioned that these solutions might affect around 30 families in Suhum.
